Kogi Govt. Promises Support to Student Unions

Kogi State Government has pledged her support to Student Unionism in the State.

Hon. Ali Bello Atimpo who is the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, made the promise in a Message to the Election and Inauguration of new Executives of the National Association of Kogi State Student (NAKOSS) National and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Kogi Joint Campus Committee (JCC) held at the Youth House, Former Children Amusement Park in Lokoja.

Represented by his Personal Assistant, Chief Kiikpoye Karibo, the Chief of Staff congratulated the new Executives of the Student Unions on their victory, describing their emergence as a call to serve as a voice for the Student Community.

The Chief of Staff noted that leadership is not about TITLE but a call to duty, charging them to be responsible and responsive leaders in their various positions and make good name for themselves during their service period to the Student.

He said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who was a Student Union Leader during his days in higher Institution, is committed to the welfare of Student in the State, assuring that the Government will give them the needed support.

The Majority Leader, Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Suleiman Abdulrazaq, encouraged the student Union Leaders and the entire Student to continue to take their studies more serious, stating that their major purpose of going to school was to acquire knowledge that will help them serve as solution to various societal issues.

Hon. Abdulrazaq who is the House of Assembly Member representing the people of Okene 1 State Constituency, said the present administration is keen to ensuring the protection of Students in various Institutions, calling on them to shun all vices that will do them no good and focus on profitable ventures.

He also enjoined them to serve as an intermediary between the government and the Student, stressing the need for cordial relationship for smooth running of their activities.

Similarly, the Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Monday Anyebe, enjoined the student leaders to always Consult and Consolidate to enable them leave good legacies.

The Commissioner also charged them to carry everyone along in the scheme of things, stressing that such will enable them serve effortlessly and achieve greater results.

On his part, the Kogi State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comr. Benjamin Ojodale (BENJERRY) congratulated the Student Leaders on their victory and enjoined them to stay focus on the aims and objectives of their respective Unions to enable them make positive impact during their tenure.

While Comrade Jeremiah Elukpo was announced as the NAKOSS National President, Comr. Gomina Ahmad Kabir emerged as NANS JCC Kogi Axis Chairman as other Executive also emerged and Inaugurated at the event.

The two helmsmen of the Student Unions promised to live up to expectations in the discharge of their duties and called for the support of the Student Community and Government to enable them succeed.
