Killed Drug Kingpin In Ajaka: LG Chair Gives Details, Commiserate With Family Of Victim, Warn Others

From the desk of Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas Ilemona Atabor. Transition Chairman Igalamela/Odolu Local Government

It’s no longer news that a suspected drug kingpin in the person of one Sumaila Ata (AKA Summy) was gunned down on the 19th of April, 2024 within the idyllic and serene town of Ajaka in the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government

It is regrettable and quite saddening that such a negative happenstance will again dent the good image of the tranquil people of the Local Government. I pray for the repose of the demised soul and a radical positive change in the character of our growing youth force. Amen.

What will be news is the fact that the said Sumaila Ata had hitherto been on the radar of the security agencies and had on several occasions escaped capture by the said agencies.

On the 19th of April, 2024, the agencies again got credible intelligence that the suspect (now deceased) had gotten delivery of a huge cache of illicit and banned drugs for illegal sale to unwitting youths and swung into action to capture the suspect and forestall a further destruction of the existence and growth of the misled youths and elders of the Local Government.

Upon getting to the spot where they tracked the demised suspect to, members of his gang attempted (as usual) to block the security agents in a bid to scuttle his arrest. He on the other hand climbed his red motorbike (colloquially referred to as rubber rubber) and attempted to flee the area. Security agents whilst in pursuit saw him pull out a gun and thereafter gunned him down.

(Pictures of his bike, guns and other evidence are here attached for clarification.)

Despite the fact that the death of the young man is regrettable, we must as a community appreciate and understand the job being carried out by all security agencies in ensuring all social ills and crimes are stamped out for the good of our people.

It is imperative that I disabuse the mind of all and sundry with respect to a post sent out by one Opaluwa Omera wherein he claimed that I have given out a list of 10 to be liquidated by the security agencies.

The security agencies acted on verified and actionable intelligence to embark on arresting the said Sumaila Ata. THERE IS NO LIST submitted anywhere for liquidation purposes. All citizens of Igalamela/Odolu and indeed Kogi State know that I am the epitome of peace and NON-Violence.

I advice the said Opaluwa Omera and his co-travellers to NOT play politics with all information they get and to ensure they VERIFY all and any information given to them before posting same.

Once again, I commiserate with the family of the demised and wish them the fortitude to bear the loss whilst enjoining them to join us in the fight to eliminate all traits of illicit drug sale, drug trafficking, armed robbery, burglary and kidnapping within our Local Government, Kogi State and indeed Nigeria as a whole.
