Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has deposed two traditional rulers in the state, as well as suspended another one.
Bello announced the deposition of the monarch during the state executive council meeting in Lokoja on Monday.
The deposed kings were queried immediately after the last year November 11 governorship election for being political and openly sympathetic to oppositions parties leading to break down of law and insecurity in their domains.
The deposed monarchs are Ohimege of Kotonkarfe, Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isa Koto, and the Olu of Magongo, Chief Sam Bola.
While the Ojogba of Ife, in Abejukolo area of Omala local government area of the state was suspended indefinitely.
Governor Bello, while announcing the deposition of the traditional rulers said the action followed the traditional and chieftaincy laws, rules and regulations of the State.
Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isa-Koto was deposed to Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.
Chief Sam Bola Ojoa, the Olu Magongo of Magongo was deposed to Salka, Magama Local Government Area of Niger State.
Samuel Adayi Onimisi, the Obobanyi of Emani was also removed and to be deposed to Doko, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
“The title Obobanyi of Ihima which reads on the promotion letter, upgrading the stool to first class status, was done without cognisance to the fact that the title; ‘OBOBANYI OF IHIMA’ is a subject of litigation and the court of law is yet to arrive at the possible final decision, as such, the government have however received several petitions, calling attention to the need to revert and maintain status quo, until the court of law decides.
“To this end, the stool is hereby reverted to OBOBANYI OF EMANI as the present occupant remains deposed,” Governor Bello said.
