President Tinubu Signs Into Law, Adoption of Old National Anthem “Nigeria We Hail Thee”

Nigeria has officially reverted to its old national anthem on Wednesday, May 29th, following the passage and signing of the relevant law.

The House of Representatives passed the Bill last week, approved on Tuesday by the Senate and its adoption was signed into law by President Tinubu on Wednesday.

During the ceremony, the army band from the Brigade of Guards led members of the House of Representatives and Senators in singing the old anthem, now reinstated as the official national anthem.

Here is the Three Stanzas of the Old National Anthem:

1. Nigeria we hail thee,

Our own dear native land,

Though tribe and tongue may differ,

In brotherhood we stand,

Nigerians all, and proud to serve

Our sovereign Motherland.

2. Our flag shall be a symbol

That truth and justice reign,

In peace or battle honour’d,

And this we count as gain,

To hand on to our children

A banner without stain.

3. O God of all creation,

Grant this our one request,

Help us to build a nation

Where no man is oppressed,

And so with peace and plenty

Nigeria may be blessed.
