About 6 months after the demise of last Elulu of Mopa, Oba Julius Funsho Joledo, his successor, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun ascended the throne.
His Royal Majesty, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun ascended the throne as the Otunba of Mopa, Chief David Saul Olojo led the King Makers to perform coronation traditional rites on him before the entire Mopa Traditional Council in Mopa.
The coronation was performed moments after he received his letter as symbol of authority from Governor Ododo Ahmed Usman of Kogi State.
Clad in white royal traditional Aso-Oke with his Olori, the new Oba who is from Ikeji Clan of Mopa was greeted with a cheering and rousing welcome by Mopa people. Native songs, eulogies, drums, dancing overtook the atmosphere as the monarch is coronated.
During his speech, Oba Ibeun appreciated God Almighty and congratulated Mopa land. He assured them that Mopa will continue to witness growth, development and peace during his reign.
The Otunba of Mopa, the Chairman of the King Makers Committee, Chief David Olojo said the process that produced the Elulu is in accordance to the customs of the land and in tandem with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He called on all Mopa people to stand with the new monarch, pray for him for the continuous growth of Mopa Kingdom.
The Balogun of Mopa, Chief Olafemi Clarence urged the new monarch to be fair to everyone in his dealings.
Speaking on Eluluship tussle, he urged everyone involved to let go of every bitterness and not to behold any grudges or hatred against anyone or the throne in the interest of Mopa.
He said royalty is service and the Oba is the supreme traditional authority of the land, he should be a rallying point for all citizens.
“He is the ruler of Mopaland and symbol of unity and has final say on customary matters. The Elulu is faced with the task of building peace”.
The jubilation of the coronation ceremony extended till Saturday and was attended by numerous native Chiefs and Obas like the Olusin of Isanlu Isin in Kwara State, His Royal Majesty Oba Solomon Olugbenga Oloyede, and His Royal Majesty Oba Adesegun Bolaji Alowonle, The Elemuren of Emuren Kingdom, Remo, Ogun State.
Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones and Mopamuro Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Ademola Bello all witnessed the occasion.
Spicing the event with melodious tune was Niyi Bright Musical Band, cultural dancers, masquerade outing, hunters display amongst others.
