Rebuttal: Choosing Leadership with Substance Over Silence – By Angel Mike (PM)

John Mayaki’s article, “The Mute Candidate”, attempts to draw an unfavorable comparison between a fictional mute king and a real political candidate in Edo State. While creative, the analogy fails to address the real issues at hand and distracts from the urgent need for effective leadership. Instead of engaging in hyperbole, let’s focus on what truly matters: electing a governor who can lead Edo State to prosperity and progress.

Rejecting Asue for Lack of Vision and Accountability

Asue of the PDP has shown a concerning lack of substance in his campaign. His limited public speaking and vague promises offer no clear path to addressing the critical issues facing Edo State. Voters deserve a candidate who can articulate a comprehensive plan, engage with the electorate, and provide transparent leadership. Asue’s campaign has been marked by a reluctance to engage, which raises serious questions about his ability to govern effectively.

Furthermore, Asue’s tenure as head of the Governor’s economic team over the past eight years has been marked by a series of poor decisions and inadequate advice, which have contributed significantly to the suffering and underdevelopment in the state. His failure to provide sound economic guidance has left Edo State struggling, making it clear that he lacks the vision and competence needed to lead.

Embracing Senator Monday Okpebholo: A Proven Leader with a Clear Vision

Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate, stands in stark contrast to Asue. He is a leader with a proven track record, a clear vision, and the ability to communicate effectively with the people he aims to serve. Here’s why Edo State needs Senator Okpebholo:

1. Clear and Documented Plans: Unlike Asue, Senator Okpebholo has presented a detailed manifesto outlining his strategies for economic development, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. His plans are transparent, allowing voters to hold him accountable.

2. Experience and Competence: Senator Okpebholo’s background demonstrates a deep understanding of governance and economic management. His experience in public service equips him with the skills necessary to navigate the challenges facing Edo State.

3. Engagement with the Electorate: Okpebholo is not afraid to speak directly to the people. He has participated in town halls, debates, and media engagements, clearly communicating his policies and responding to voter concerns. This openness fosters trust and accountability.

4. Focus on Progress: Senator Okpebholo’s vision for Edo State is one of progress and development. He plans to leverage Edo’s resources and potential to create jobs, improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

5. Strong Leadership in Difficult Times: With Nigeria facing economic challenges, Edo State needs a leader who can implement prudent economic management models. Okpebholo’s plans for fiscal responsibility and economic growth are crucial for navigating these lean times.

CONCLUSION:
Edo State is at a critical juncture. The decision voters make will shape the future of the state. While Asue offers uncertainty and a lack of engagement, Senator Monday Okpebholo presents a compelling case for leadership defined by vision, transparency, and action. Voters should reject the superficial theatrics of the PDP candidate and choose a governor who will lead with substance and conviction. Senator Monday Okpebholo is the clear choice for a prosperous and forward-looking Edo State.
