We wish to address the misinformation circulating regarding the leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in Kogi State, particularly the claims made by the over-aged Comr. Ben Jerry.
Amb. Usman Ogohi Samuel remains the duly elected and recognized Chairman of the Kogi State Chapter of NYCN. His election has been affirmed at the national level and by the 36 States Chairmen Forum. Furthermore, Amb. Usman Ogohi holds the position of Welfare Director of the 36 States Chairmen Forum, a role that can only be held by a sitting State Chairman.
At the National Management Meeting in Abuja, and reaffirmed in August in Port Harcourt, Amb. Usman Ogohi Samuel was among those appointed to serve in the Affiliation and Revalidation Committee of the National Youth Council, which is paving the way for new membership across all 36 states. This committee is headed by the Deputy President of the Council, Amb. Innocent Nduanya, and further underscores Amb. Ogohi’s legitimacy and the widespread support he commands.
It’s important to highlight that Comr. Ben Jerry, the individual attempting to create confusion within the Council, is well above the age limit of 18-35, which is clearly stipulated for those eligible to serve in NYCN leadership roles. His claims are not only unfounded but also in direct violation of the age criteria set by the NYCN.
The real issue at play here is the determination of certain over-aged individuals, who have long held leadership positions, to retain control of the Council. These individuals, including Comr. Ben Jerry, are intent on destabilizing the Council to prevent its rightful return to the actual youths it was established to serve. They do not represent the interests of the young people of Kogi State but are using underhanded tactics to retain their influence.
Amb. Usman Ogohi Samuel and his leadership team are committed to returning the Council to its core mission—empowering the youth and giving them the platform they deserve. We call on the youth of Kogi State to remain calm and focused, and to disregard the false claims and misinformation being spread.
The leadership of Amb. Usman Ogohi Samuel is fully backed by the relevant authorities, and we are confident that appropriate measures will be taken to address those seeking to undermine the progress and unity of the Council.
Amb. Usman Ogohi Samuel is, and will continue to be, the rightful and recognized leader of the NYCN in Kogi State. Together, we stand committed to driving positive change for the youth.
Thank you,
Kogi Youth Orientation Alliance,
