Lagos State Govt. Counters Mosan-Okunola LCDA Chairman’s Announcement on Reintroduction of Monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise

The Lagos State government has debunked the news of the reintroduction of the Monthly Sanitation Exercise in the State.

The Executive Chairman of Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area, Princess Olabisi Adebanjo (Abisco Talk And Do), had earlier announced that the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, approved the last Saturday of this month, which is on 27th July, 2024 for the exercise and restricted movements from 7 o’clock in the morning to 10 o’clock in the morning.

Reacting to the announcement, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Hon. Tokunbo Wahab, described the announcement as fake news, urging the public to disregard it in totality.

Hon. Wahab in a statement by Kunle Adeshina – Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, explained that Governor Sanwo-Olu have not re-introduced monthly environmental Sanitation, stressing that there will be NO restriction of movement on the last Saturday of July.

“Lagos State Government on Wednesday debunked a viral fake news on social media, stating emphatically that the State has not re-introduced the monthly environmental sanitation and is not starting any movement restriction by July ending

“In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, he stated that the viral news is the work of mischief makers who are keen on confusing residents

“He urged all residents to disregard the content of the viral fake news and go about their lawful business endeavour, pointing out that there will be no restriction of movements on the last Saturday of July as erroneously included in the fake news

“Wahab explained that what the Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu announced on Sunday during a sanitation sensitisation exercise at Campos playground Lagos island was that the state will start a weekly community based sensitisation and awareness exercise that will involve all residents

In his words: “The Governor also stated that State Government officials will lead from the front every week by going round to join residents in cleaning their environment in a voluntary manner while preaching the message

Tokunbo Wahab added that at no time did Mr. Governor make a pronouncement that the monthly exercise and restriction will start in July or any other month for now.

The Commissioner urged all residents to imbibe the culture of cleaning their surroundings all the time and not wait until the government declares a particular month for commencement of sanitation or restriction of movement.
