School Fees: Kogi Govt. to Crackdown on Head Teachers, Principals

Kogi State Government has threatened to crackdown on Principals and Head Teachers of public Schools found collecting school fees from pupils and students.

The warning comes following recent reports that school administrators are demanding payments from students, despite the state government’s declaration of free education at primary and secondary levels.

Commissioner of Education, Hon. Wemi Jones vowed to ensure every child’s right to education is fee-free without exceptions.

Hon. Jones, said government will sanction any principal or school administrator caught collecting money from students.

He emphasized the importance of Governor Usman Ododo’s decision to relieve parents of the burden of fees payment, given the current economic challenges facing the country.

“Governor Ododo has declared a state of emergency in education in Kogi State, and it is imperative that every child has access to quality education without the hindrance of financial barriers,” stated Hon Jones. “Principals who continue to collect fees are not only doing a disservice to the state but also attempting to sabotage the government’s initiative.”

The commissioner stressed that any school official found violating the free education policy will face severe consequences.

He urged parents and students to report any instances of fee collection to the appropriate authorities to ensure accountability and transparency in the education system.
