Protest: NYCN To Consult Widely, Acknowledges Challenges, Advises Youth To Be On Standby

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) under the leadership of Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Suku has acknowledged the economic hardship and challenges currently faced by Nigerians, most especially the youths.

This was contained in a communique issued on 24th July 2024 after the crucial meeting convened by the NYCN National Executives, its 36 States Chairmen, and other stakeholders to deliberate on the state of the nation and the looming nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024.

The meeting, which was held via Zoom, also addressed urgent concerns of Nigeria youths and the overall socio-economic and political climate of the country.

After extensive deliberations, the NYCN resolved to go into wide consultation and stakeholders engagement within the next 4 days with various stakeholders, government officials, security agencies, civil societies organizations, and the media to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the issues.

A World Press Conference will also be held on Wednesday, 31st July 2024, where the NYCN leadership will state its position on the planned protest; until then, the NYCN advises their millions of members, 774 Local Government branches, wards, states and zonal chapters, NYCN in diaspora, Man O’ War, Boy Scouts, Royal Rangers, Islamic Youth League, and 100 other affiliated youth organizations to be on standby and await further direction.

The NYCN reaffirms its commitment to representing the interests of Nigerian youths and advocating for positive change in the nation, reiterating the urgent need to address the current socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria, including rising inflation, insecurity, unemployment, and the general hardship experienced by citizens.

NYCN urgently demands that employment should be speedily created for Nigera youths in order to reduce frustration and restlessness. They asked for the support of all stakeholders as they prepared to address the nation towards a better Nigeria.
