Your Excellency Sir,
Let me quickly first and foremost acknowledge and commend the significant strides your administration has made across various sectors in Kogi State. Your tireless commitment to welfare, infrastructural development, healthcare improvement, and education has been nothing short of being impressive. Let me also note that your drive towards the sustaining of some legacies of your predecessor is commendable.
However, I wish to draw your attention to a matter of growing concern, particularly in some areas of Kogi West, with a special focus on Yagba Federal Constituency and, more specifically, Yagba East Local Government Area. The security situation in these areas has unfortunately deteriorated in recent weeks and days.
Kidnappings, acts that can be likened to banditry, and other forms of insecurity have become an alarming daily occurrence, leaving the existing security apparatus struggling and, in some instances, gasping helplessly to manage these threats.
In Yagba East, in particular, there has been a noticeable surge in criminal activity, which many residents attribute to the recent dislodgment of illegal miners operating in the area without having a security backup plan to protect that dwellers from an expected aggression.
This development, while necessary, has left a security vacuum that appears to be increasingly exploited by criminal elements. Our people now live in constant fear and uncertainty, with the threat of violence hanging over their daily lives. It has gotten to a point where people are being picked right inside their houses.
As a compassionate and proactive leader that you are, I kindly plead and call on your esteemed office to give urgent attention to this pressing issue. The near collapse of security in these selected areas, especially in Yagba East, is a challenge that requires the intervention of all stakeholders to ensure that it does not escalate further in the coming days.
We trust in your ability to act swiftly and decisively to restore peace and security in these communities, as you have always demonstrated a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of our people.
