Igala Brothers and Friends Initiative Rejects Inclusion of Igala Nation in IPOB’s Biafra Map.

The Igala Brothers and Friends Initiative (IBFI) has strongly condemned the recent publication by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), which included the Igala Nation in its proposed map of Biafra. In a statement issued after an extraordinary meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) and signed by its National Leader, Comrade Philip Ameh, the group described the move as a political gimmick and a mischievous attempt to undermine the sovereignty of Nigeria and the autonomy of the Igala Kingdom.

The statement reaffirmed the Igala Nation’s distinct historical identity and sovereignty, emphasizing that any decision of national interest must be made in consultation with and with the blessings of the Atta of Igala Kingdom, the traditional custodian of Igala values and heritage. The NEC warned that the IPOB’s inclusion of the Igala Nation in its secessionist agenda is both insulting and unrealistic, calling on the group to desist immediately from such provocative and divisive tactics.

The NEC expressed optimism in the efforts of the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, which it acknowledged has initiated steps toward restructuring the nation in line with the provisions of the constitution. IBFI commended the president for the recent autonomy granted to local governments as the third tier of government, describing it as a critical step toward true federalism and equitable power devolution. The NEC urged all Nigerians to support these reforms, which offer hope for a more inclusive and just federation.

While recognizing the shared history and economic ties between the Igala Nation and neighboring ethnic groups, the NEC stressed that such relationships must be grounded in mutual respect and equity. It rejected IPOB’s unilateral and deceptive attempt to include the Igala Nation in its map of Biafra without consultation or consent.

“The Igala Nation has always been a sovereign entity with a rich history of governance under the Atta of Igala. This heritage, coupled with our commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria, makes it imperative that we resist any attempt to manipulate or compromise our sovereignty,” the statement read.

The NEC, in collaboration with the National Leader of IBFI, Comrade Philip Ameh, unequivocally condemned the antics of IPOB as a calculated effort to stir discord and destabilize the nation. It reaffirmed the Igala people’s unwavering loyalty to Nigeria and their commitment to charting their destiny within the framework of a united and prosperous federation.

“The Igala Kingdom will not be co-opted into any agenda that seeks to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty. We stand with President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s administration in its vision for a restructured and stronger Nigeria. The Igala Nation will always act in the best interest of its people and will remain a beacon of unity and progress,” the statement concluded.

Long live the Ata of Igala Kingdom!

Long live the Igala Brothers and Friends Initiative!

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Signed:

Comrade Philip Ameh

National Leader, Igala Brothers and Friends Initiative (IBFI)
