In Alexander Dumas’ classic novel, The Three Musketeers, the protagonists embodied loyalty, bravery, and a commitment to justice. In contemporary Kogi State, three political figures—His Excellency Ahmed Usman Ododo FCA, Rep. Leke Abejide and Alh. Idris Asiru is redefining governance with a shared vision of progress. While each plays a distinct role, their combined efforts are setting Kogi on an unprecedented trajectory of growth and development.
Governor Ododo’s tenure has been nothing short of transformative. From infrastructure to security and economic empowerment, his administration has demonstrated a keen understanding of governance. However, if there is one area where his impact is most pronounced, it is education.
In a bold move that has relieved thousands of parents across the state, the Ododo administration now fully funds WAEC, NECO,JAMB, and all other external examinations for students in public schools. This policy is not just a gesture of goodwill—it is an investment in the future of Kogi State. For too long, financial constraints have kept brilliant but indigent students from taking these crucial examinations, effectively truncating their academic aspirations. By removing this burden, Gov. Ododo is democratizing access to education and laying a solid foundation for a more literate and productive populace.
What makes this initiative even more remarkable is its continuity. Rather than abandoning the gains of his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Ododo has built upon them, ensuring that no student in Kogi is left behind due to financial hardship.
If Governor Ododo’s educational interventions are commendable, then Rep. Leke Abejide’s contributions are nothing short of exemplary. As the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Abejide has taken a unique approach to politics—one that prioritizes development over party affiliations.
For years, the payment of WAEC fees was a challenge for indigent students in Kogi. Following the intervention of the Leke Abejide Foundation public school students in Yagba land benefitted from the interventions, those in private institutions are equally captured as subsisting focus across the entire (5) five LGAs in Okun Land. seeing this gap, Abejide took His reasoning? Education should not be a privilege but a right, irrespective of where a child receives their schooling.
This initiative has not only earned him widespread admiration but has also reinforced his image as a leader who truly cares for his people. His approach to governance—focusing on real, tangible development rather than political rhetoric—is a model that many in public office should emulate.
Behind every successful government is a meticulous planner and appropriation guru who ensures that policies are backed by sound financial management. In Kogi State, that person is Alh. Asiru Idris, the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning.
For over a decade, Alh. Idris Asiru FCA has been the stabilizing force behind Kogi’s economic direction. His prudent handling of the state’s finances has ensured that key initiatives—including the payment of examination fees and other welfare programs—are not just promises but realities.
While many states struggle with financial mismanagement, leading to unpaid salaries and abandoned projects, Kogi has maintained a steady economic course. Under Asiwaju’s watch, government resources have been channelled effectively, ensuring that development projects do not stall due to lack of funds. His ability to maintain fiscal discipline, even in challenging economic times, has been instrumental in the state’s progress.
Individually, Governor Ododo, Rep. Abejide and Alh. idris Asiru are powerful forces for good. Collectively, they represent a leadership model that is people-focused, development-driven, and forward-thinking. Their synergy is proving that governance, when done right, can have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of citizens.
As Kogi continues on this upward trajectory, one thing is clear: the Three Musketeers of Kogi politics are not just making promises—they are delivering results. In a political landscape often marred by empty rhetoric, that alone is revolutionary.
