A Candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the 2023 Kogi Governorship election, Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, has called for joint sacrifice to address the hydra headed issue of societal poverty bedevilled Okunland for decades.
Braimoh made the call at the formal launching of “Okun Youth Alliance (OYA) Movement” with the theme: “Raising a New Generation of Okun Leaders: Through Sensitisation, Empowerment, and Political Action”, on Friday in Kabba.
Braimoh, who was a guest speaker at the event, commended the Convener of OYA Movement, Comrade Oladele John-Nihi, for the initiative towards unity, progress and development in Okunland
He stressed the need for Okun nation to chat a new course for societal prosperity, which, according to him, requires a great sacrifice.
“We need to identify where we are coming from, where we are presently, and define where we want to be.
“We must look at the parameters with which we define our interest; we must prioritize the interest of the majority above the individual interest.
“We must unite together and collectively pay the sacrifice for a scale-able and sustainable prosperity in Okunland.
“We must begin to appraise and reappraise ourselves, and I hope the OYA Movement will be able to champion that course because development does not happen by chance but by coordinated actions,
We must make sacrifice and be ready to take responsibility for the betterment of Okunland,” Braimoh said.
In his welcome address, the Convener, OYA Movement, Comrade Oladele John-Nihi, said the moment marked a significant milestone in the journey towards unity, progress and development of Okunland
According to him, the OYA movement is anchored on three pillars: Sensitisation & Reorientation, Empowerment & Engagement, and Politics.
“We believe that by sensitising and reorienting our youths, we can help them develop a sense of purpose and direction.
“By empowering and engaging them, we can unlock their potential and help them become active participants in the development of our community.
“And through politics, we can ensure that our voices are heard and that our interests are represented at all levels of governance.
“As we move forward, we will face challenges and obstacles. But we will not be deterred.
“We will not be discouraged. We will continue to work together, to support each other, and to strive for excellence,” John-Nihi said.
The event was well attended by dignitaries, royal fathers, technocrats, politicians and government officials, sons, and daughters from Okunland.
