ACReSAL: MATC Recieves World Bank Team on Farmers Profiling

Mopamuro Traditional Council (MATC), led by the Chairman, the Elulu of Mopa, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Oba (Dr.) Muyiwa Ibeun, has received a team of the World Bank’s financed Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project in Mopa, the headquarter of Mopamuro Local Government.

The team was led by Safiyah Ahmed, the Kogi State Stakeholder Manager for Pure Awesomeness Limited, which is in charge of Profiling Farmers in Kogi.

Safiyah Ahmed, while addressing the traditional council, appreciated them for receiving the ACReSAL team and asked for their support in reaching success for the project.

She said the focus of the project is to identify actual farmers, locate their farms, tag them with GPS map coordinates, and the individuals’ personal details.

She added that with this approach, the Farmers and Agriculture empowerment will get to those it was intended for, and the ACReSAL goal will be met.

The Alamuro, HRM, Oba (Engr.) Alfred Modupe Aiyedogbon, in response, appreciated the team, saying they have taken the best decision to reach actual farmers via the traditional council.

He added that almost all of them are farmers, and they know those who have actual farms in their locale.

The traditional council unanimously said this is not the first time teams have come to ask for details of actual farmers, and in the end, the empowerment will not be executed. The ACRaSAL team said it is to correct these challenges of the past, and that is why they need their support to achieve success.

Oba Muyiwa Ibeun assured ACReSAL and World Bank of the MATC support and enabling environment to target real farmers and achieve their goal. He also called them not to only empower farmers, but they should fulfil all ACReSAL goals, aims, and objectives in Mopamuro.

Part of the ACReSAL team is Seyi Aina, Kogi West Coordinator; and Taiwo Micheal Olufiran, Mopamuro Local Government team lead.
