When Mr. Ade stopped helping certain individuals in his neighborhood because he felt he could no longer bear the responsibility, they responded with hostility and resentment. This toxic behavior almost overwhelmed him. He became upset, shocked by their sense of entitlement.
For many years, he had wondered why these individuals rarely took responsibility for their own lives or made a good effort to improve their personal choices. Instead, they shifted the blame onto him and refused to acknowledge their own flaws.
Familiar? Good.
This scenario is similar to what is playing out right now in Trump’s America. Because the US government decided to halt its generous aid and trade concessions to certain countries, the response has been a backlash filled with insults and curses.
It does not matter that not a few of these countries squandered their resources due to corruption, misplaced priorities, and sheer incompetence. It doesn’t matter that all they require to be great is already put inside of them by the Almighty, only that they, for some apparent, and – sometimes not so apparent reasons, refused to act right.
Today, the United States, particularly Mr. Trump and his GOP, are now scapegoated for the poverty that these nations not only tolerate but celebrate.
Yes. O yes.
The next time someone you used to assist turns aggressive towards you simply because you now have a new set of priorities, please don’t get upset. Just remember Trump whom you probably don’t like.
Additional information for my Nigerian readers. Our dear country, Nigeria, deported nearly a thousand immigrants in 2024 alone. It is the right thing to do.
Every sovereign territory/nation must not only have a border, it must police its borders diligently, and ensure that anyone who breaks in is promptly rounded up and sent out.
Sounds similar to what you hear Trump do for which you blame (or praise – depending on what passes with you) him?
Yes. It definitely does.
May we have the strength and good fortune to build our own nation. Amen.
