Gov. Ododo: KGHIA Benefits Orphans and Caregivers.

Kogi State Governor Enrolls Orphans and Caregivers in State Health Insurance Scheme

The Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed the immediate inclusion of orphans and caregivers in orphanages across the state into the State Health Insurance Scheme.

This development was announced by the Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Health Insurance Agency (KGSHIA), Dr. Adekunle Aledare, during his visit to two orphanages in Lokoja—the Margaret Garba Ohiani Orphanage and Less Privileged Home, Zango, and the Stagi Cornerstone Orphanage, Adankolo.

Dr. Aledare highlighted that this initiative underscores the governor’s unwavering commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services, particularly for the state’s most vulnerable populations.

According to the Executive Secretary, several orphanages are already benefiting from the agency’s services. He emphasized that Governor Ododo’s directive reflects his dedication to humanity and his belief in the universal right to affordable and quality healthcare, irrespective of socioeconomic status. Dr. Aledare further noted that this initiative forms part of the administration’s broader mission to deliver inclusive and effective governance for all residents of Kogi State.

Madam Rufina Ejimbi, a caregiver at the Margaret Garba Ohiani Orphanage and Less Privileged Home, commended Governor Ododo’s consistent support for the institution. She remarked on his longstanding relationship with the orphanage, noting his tradition of celebrating personal milestones, such as birthdays, with the children, during which he donates textbooks, food items, and other essentials. “His actions as governor, particularly remembering us, speak volumes about his character and compassion,” she said.

Mrs. Clara Owoshagba, Matron of Stagi Cornerstone Orphanage, also expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the management, staff, and children. She described the initiative as a timely intervention, alleviating the significant financial strain associated with medical expenses.

The enrollment exercise is scheduled to take place on January 17–18, 2025, at the respective orphanages.
