Okezie-Okafor Commends Forward Thinking Initiative, says Alliance Strategic to State Growth

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has solicited partnerships with Canadian investors to harness Kogi’s vast mineral resources, emphasizing the potential for wealth creation, environmental protection, and employment growth. Represented at the Third International Conference on Raw Materials (ICERMS) 2024 by Dr. Folashade Ayoade, the Secretary to the State Government, the Governor highlighted Kogi’s shared abundance in natural resources with Canada as a foundation for sustainable development.

This partnership is expected to leverage on the Canadian expertise and technology, to obtain significant benefits for both Kogi and Nigeria at large. By adopting modern mining techniques, advanced geological surveys, and sustainable practices, Kogi aims to maximize mineral production efficiently while minimizing ecological impact. Additionally, joint ventures and structured training initiatives will enhance the local workforce, aligning mining practices with international standards, and creating a competitive edge in global markets. Such economic growth will directly impact job creation and expand the State’s revenue base.

Positioned as a core part of Kogi’s Continuity and Consolidation Agenda, this collaboration, if birthed, will represents a progressive move under Governor Ododo’s leadership to sustain and enhance the economic trajectory established by previous administration. By driving the minerals sector forward, Kogi is set to anchor its development in sustainable wealth creation, securing long-term prosperity and ecological balance.

Speaking from Canada as part of the state delegation, Barr. Moses Okezie-Okafor, Director General of Research and Development and Head of Special Actionable Research Team A (SPARTA), commended the initiative, calling it a “game-changer” for Kogi’s economic landscape. He emphasized that such collaboration demonstrates strategic international cooperation, paving the way for innovations in mining, workforce development, and responsible resource management. The DG lauded Governor Ododo’s vision, noting that such alliances are pivotal in transforming Kogi into a model of resource-driven development while ensuring the well-being of its people.

The delegation also included the Hon. Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alh. Bashir Mohammed Abubakar.
