Unknown Woman Dumped Newborn Baby In Lokoja Gutter

Residents of Karaworo Street, in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, were on Wednesday morning shocked that a day-old-baby boy dumped in a gutter by unwanted mother was found alive, hale and hearty.

According to the Eye Witness account, the incident which occurred at Karaworo near Kutepa Juma’at Mosque, said, the mother was yet to be known.

A 45-year-old woman, Talatu Ibrahim, who found the baby in a gutter beside her window, told our correspondent that she had a cry of a baby at the back of her window.

“When I had the cry of a baby at the back of my window, I ran outside and only to see the newly born baby boy dumped in a gutter beside my window around 5 am this morning.

“As I raised alarm, some people from the neighbourhood came out and took the baby to an elderly woman (my sister-in-law) beside my house.”

The good samaritan had out of empathy for the day-old-baby bath the child.

In an interview with the founder of MOHAB People’s Care Foundation, Muhammed Abubakar, who was at the scene, said all efforts made to trace the mother of the baby proved abortive, he added that the baby would be handed over to the Ministry of Social Welfare Children and Women Affairs for proper care, adding that efforts were ongoing to trace the mother of the baby to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to Abubakar, the Ministry of Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs had been contacted, and the baby would be handed over to them for proper care.

Meanwhile, sources from the street disclosed to KogiOnlineNg that officials from the Kogi State Ministry of Women Affairs later visited the scene.

According to the sources, the baby had been taken away by the officials for proper cure.
