Rana Basharat Ali Khan Condemns Ongoing Strikes on Civilians and Schools in Gaza, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Humanitarian Relief

The Chairman of International Human Rights Movement (IHRM), Rana Basharat Ali Khan, has condemned the recent and ongoing attacks on civilian infrastructure in Gaza, particularly the horrific strikes on schools serving as shelters for displaced families.

The most recent incident, which occurred during dawn prayers on August 10, 2024, resulted in the deaths of at least 93 Palestinians, including 11 children and six women. The strikes, which targeted a Mosque inside Al Tabaeen School, is said to represent a grave violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.

“The repeated attacks on schools, hospitals, and other civilian structures in Gaza are not only tragic but also unlawful. These actions, which have caused an unimaginable loss of lives and suffering, are unacceptable under any circumstances

“Civilians, especially women, children, and the elderly, must not bear the brunt of this conflict. We call for an immediate cessation of hostilities, a comprehensive ceasefire, and the urgent provision of humanitarian aid to those affected.”

Since the escalation of violence on October 7, 2023, the situation in Gaza has deteriorated drastically, with more than 39,000 Palestinians reported killed and over 91,000 injured. The vast majority of Gaza’s population—over 90% of its 2.3 million residents—has been displaced multiple times due to relentless airstrikes and ground operations. Schools, which have become the last refuge for many displaced families, have been struck at least 21 times since July 2024, resulting in the deaths of at least 274 civilians, primarily women and children.

“The International Human Rights Movement stands in solidarity with the people of Gaza and reiterates our commitment to advocating for their rights on the global stage. We urge the International Community to hold those responsible for these atrocities accountable and to ensure that international humanitarian law is upheld. It is critical that all parties to the conflict respect the principles of proportionality, distinction, and precaution in military operations. The targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure must cease immediately.”

Mr. Khan also emphasized the role of the International Human Rights Movement in supporting global peace efforts and promoting the culture of human rights. “The International Human Rights Movement remains dedicated to protecting the rights of people everywhere and to promoting peace among nations. We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent discrimination, uphold political freedom, and expose human rights violations wherever they occur.”

In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Mr. Khan called on governments, international organizations, and individuals around the world to contribute to the humanitarian response.

“The people of Gaza are facing indescribable horrors every day. It is our collective responsibility to provide them with the support they need. I urge everyone to donate to humanitarian efforts and to join us in advocating for an end to this senseless violence.”

The International Human Rights Movement will continue to monitor the situation closely and will work with its partners to ensure that the voices of the victims are heard, and justice is pursued.
