Lokoja Accident: NAKOSS VP Commiserates with FUL and Families of Accident Victims, Suggests Lasting Solution

The National Vice President of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS), Comrade Sunday, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) community and the families of the students who lost their lives in the ghastly accident that occurred in Lokoja on February 17, 2025.

Comrade Sunday described the loss of these promising students as a “colossal loss” to the Kogi Students Community. He noted that the accident has sent shockwaves throughout the state, leaving many students, parents, and guardians in a state of grief and mourning.

The NAKOSS Vice President also suggested a lasting solution to prevent such accidents in the future. According to him, the road expansion in Lokoja, particularly in the Felele area, is long overdue. He attributed the frequent accidents in the area to the poor state of the Felele road, which has become a death trap for many road users.

Comrade Sunday urged the Kogi State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Usman Ododo, to take decisive action to sanitize the Felele Route. He recommended enforcing a law that ensures a 7-meter distance between the road and the nearest sale point. This, he believes, will help prevent future accidents and save lives.

Furthermore, Comrade Sunday called on the Kogi State Government to invest in the reconstruction and expansion of the Felele road, ensuring that it meets the highest safety standards. He also advocated for the provision of adequate street lighting, traffic management systems, and emergency response services to prevent accidents and minimize their impact.

The NAKOSS Vice President’s suggestion is timely, considering the frequent accidents that have occurred in the Felele area. It is imperative that the Kogi State Government takes immediate action to address this issue and ensure the safety of students and other road users.

In conclusion, Comrade Sunday reiterated his condolences to the families of the accident victims and the FUL community, praying that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. He also called on all stakeholders to join hands in finding a lasting solution to the Felele road menace, to prevent future accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
