I salute the remarkable progress and achievements recorded so far by the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. In less than a year as governor, he has ushered in unprecedented growth and development across all sectors of the state.
Key Highlights of Governor Ododo’s Achievements, aligned with Hon. Ogirima’s duty to communicate these successes to the people
1. Domestic Debt Reduction: Governor Ododo has successfully reduced Kogi State’s domestic debt from ₦121 billion to approximately ₦35 billion. This significant reduction has strengthened the state’s financial standing, earning a commendable Fitch Rating of “B” with a positive outlook. This achievement not only boosts the state’s creditworthiness but also paves the way for future economic growth and investment.
2. Youth Empowerment: Addressing youth unemployment, Governor Ododo launched the Ododo Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Program (OYESA), which targets over 250 youths across the 21 local government areas. The program provides stipends, starter packs, and business registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), empowering young people to become self-reliant and contribute to economic diversification.
3. Flood Preparedness: Recognizing the recurring issue of flooding, Governor Ododo introduced the 2024 Flood Mitigation, Adaptation, and Response Roadmap. This proactive plan includes early warning systems, improved infrastructure, and community preparedness for flood-prone areas.
4. Education Revitalization: The governor has revitalized the Kogi State Scholarship Board, ensuring that over 45,000 young Kogites are enrolled in institutions nationwide. This initiative provides financial relief for families and fosters intellectual development, preparing the future workforce of Kogi State.
5. Security Improvements: To enhance security, the administration distributed 120 customized security vans and 44 motorcycles across the state. Additionally, hundreds of new operatives have been recruited to bolster community policing, ensuring that Kogi remains safe for residents and visitors alike.
6. Infrastructure Development: Under Governor Ododo’s leadership, several key infrastructure projects have been completed, including the construction of eight township roads and the dualization of the Zone 8-Zango-GYB Junction Road in the capital. These projects aim to improve connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and stimulate economic activity.
7. Healthcare: Governor Ododo introduced a 10-year strategic healthcare plan to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare for all citizens. His administration also commissioned the Police Quick Response Office to handle medical emergencies more efficiently, demonstrating the governor’s commitment to the health and well-being of Kogi’s citizens.
8. Agricultural Advancement: In a bid to boost agriculture, the governor has overseen the refurbishment of over 200 abandoned tractors and distributed industrial tractors, fertilizers, and other inputs across all local government areas. These efforts aim to enhance food security and reduce reliance on imported food.
9. Erosion Control: Comprehensive erosion control projects have been launched across the three senatorial districts, addressing environmental challenges and protecting vulnerable communities from the effects of erosion.
10. Civil Service Welfare: Governor Ododo prioritizes the welfare of civil servants, ensuring the prompt and full payment of salaries and pensions. This commitment demonstrates his dedication to the financial stability of state workers and retirees.
11. Minimum Wage Implementation: The administration has implemented a ₦72,500 minimum wage for civil servants, with the data collection of civil servants underway and without tax deduction for one year. This initiative is expected to improve living standards and boost workforce productivity.
12. Aviation Upgrade: The governor has initiated the upgrade of Kogi State’s airstrip in Adogo to international cargo airport standards, positioning the state as a regional trade hub. This transformative project will drive economic growth and create jobs.
13. Governance and Integrity: Governor Ododo’s administration remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is applied fairly and consistently. His leadership is marked by clarity, empathy, and strength, with a focus on inclusive governance.
14. Peace and Unity: The administration promotes peace and unity across Kogi State, creating an environment conducive to socio-economic development and harmonious living.
15. Institutional Reforms: Key reforms have been implemented under Governor Ododo’s leadership, including the strengthening of governance institutions and the establishment of the Kogi State Anti-Corruption Agency, reflecting his commitment to transparency and accountability.
16. Technological Advancement: Governor Ododo established the Kogi State Information Technology Development Agency to drive technological advancements, positioning the state at the forefront of digital transformation.
