Health Insurance: KGSHIA Organises A Two-Day Program On Health Benefit Package/Drug/ Professional Service Tariff Review

The Kogi State Health Insurance Agency (KGSHIA) recently conducted a two-day program focused on the review of her benefit package, drug and professional service tariffs.

The Executive Secretary of KGSHIA Dr. Adekunle Aledare while giving a welcome remark noted that this initiative aims to enhance the quality of healthcare services by ensuring that benefit packages remain updated and adequately priced to meet the needs of the KGSHIA’s enrolees.

During the program, stakeholders including healthcare providers, health insurance experts, and policymakers engaged in discussions to assess the existing tariff structures, identify gaps, and explore ways to optimize costs while maintaining high standards of care.

Key objectives of the program includes:

Evaluation of Benefit Packages: Analyzing the current benefit packages to ensure they align with the health needs of the Kogi State population, considering factors such as common diseases, healthcare access, and affordability.

Medical Consumables Review: Assessing the pricing and availability of essential medical consumables to ensure that healthcare facilities can deliver effective services.

Stakeholder Engagement: Facilitating dialogue among stakeholders to gather input and ensure that the tariff adjustments on drugs and other services reflect the realities of the healthcare system and are sustainable for both providers and beneficiaries.

Policy Recommendations:

Developing actionable recommendations that can guide the KGSHIA in implementing the revised tariffs and improving the overall health insurance program in Kogi State.

Capacity Building:Providing training and resources to healthcare providers on the new tariffs and benefit packages to ensure smooth implementation and compliance.

The program underscores the commitment of the Kogi State government to improve healthcare delivery and make health insurance more accessible and effective for its residents.

Dr. Aledare noted that continuous reviews and updates to the health insurance system are essential to adapting to changing healthcare needs and economic conditions.

The program had in attendance the Board Chairman of KGSHIA, Pharm. Ariko Suberu who in his remark, appreciates the commitment from the Kogi State Government in prioritising the health condition of its residents through its various health programmes in the State. Hon, Jacob Abraham Damilare, a Permanent Member II of KGSHIA, senior management team of KGSHIA, the Kogi State Coordinator of National Health Insurance Authority, Mallam Sanni Suleiman and his NHIA team.

Others include medical professionals from both Kogi State Specialist Hospital, Lokoja, and Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, representatives of Kogi State Drugs Management Agency, representatives of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, representatives of Nigerian Medical Association,Kogi State chapter, representatives of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter, Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, and private organisations.
