WV4D Project: Kogi Ministry Partners RECEF To Increase Women Participation In Politics

Kogi State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatimah Buba, has pledged the commitment of the ministry to partner with Renaissance Care and Empowerment Foundation (RECEF) to ensure improved women participation in politics.

Buba made this known during a technical session with RECEF members in her office.

She also commended the organization and her funders for taking up the issues of women inclusion in politics, stating that this was very much needed.

She pledged that the doors of her ministry and her office will always be open to the team, and that RECEF can count on the Ministry’s support and collaboration.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Director, Ambassador Idris Ozovehe Muraina, described RECEF as a non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-partisan organization working hard to ensure improved quality of holistic care services and sustainable economic empowerment of vulnerable groups in the society.

While giving an overview of the Women Voice for Development (WV4D) project, the Program Manager of RECEF, Ikechukwu Mpama, explained that the project is designed to block the gap observed in the participation of women in politics.

While providing a background to the project, he noted that the project intervention became a necessity when a trend of declining participation of women in elections were observed between the 2015 and 2019 elections.

He listed the project objectives to include reduction in reported incidences of electoral violence and violence against women in politics during the general elections in Kogi state by March 2023 and to increase the participation of women voters.

He stated that the project is designed to reach women in the 21 LGAs in Kogi state and has a duration of 6 months and appealed for the partnership of the Honourable Commissioner and the Ministry.
